ZAMBIAN BREWERIES SALUTES RED ARROWS’ CARLING BLACK LABEL CHARITY SHIELD WIN
… as the Charity Shield shines spotlight on the women’s teams
LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – The 2024 Carling Black Label Charity Shield Game brought together football fans and sports enthusiasts from across the country for an exhilarating matchday experience which saw Zambia Premier League winners, Red Arrows FC lift the Charity Shield Cup. This year the event, held at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, also featured women’s teams – a first for the Chairty Shield.
The main event featured the winners of the Zambia Premier League, Red Arrows FC, and the runners-up in the ABSA Cup, Kabwe Warriors. The match ended with Red Arrows FC scoring 4-1 over Kabwe Warriors all in the second half of the game. Ricky Banda of Red Arrows, who also clinched the man of the match and a prize of K26,000, kicked off the scoring at the 51st minute. He was then followed by Pen (64′), Angel Lubamba (74′) and Michie Malonga (81′) also of Red Arrows. Mwamba Mutombo scored the lone goal for Kabwe Warriors at the 85th minute.
The women’s teams gave a spectacular performance, highlighting the growth of women’s football in Zambia. Green Buffaloes WFC faced off against Choma Warriors, with the Buffaloes securing a resounding 10-0 victory. Vanessa Chikupila, who scooped the player of the match and received K26,000 in prize, led the scoring with goals in the 3rd, 19th, and 71st minutes. Additional goals were scored by Maweta Chilenga (7′), Maylan Mulenga (30′, 41′, 64′), Thanda Mokgabo (56′), Memory Nthala (69′), and Natasha Nanyangwe (81′).
As in the preceding year, Carling Black Label consumers and football fans had the opportunity of choosing the starting 11 players of their favourite team with a total of 10,1410 votes cast as of Friday 9th August 2024 when voting closed.
Zambian Breweries Brand Manager Carling Black Label, Lusungu Ng’uni thanked the football community and fans for their continued support and for making the event yet another successful one. Notable among those in attendance were Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, Chama Fumba and various Senior Members of the Football Fraternity.

Zambian Breweries’ sponsorship towards the 2024 Charity Shield Game totalled K281,000, alongside an additional K200,000 in prize money and sports kits valued at K125,000. Furthermore, the brewer announced a significant investment of K3.37 million in the Zambia Premier League for the 2024–25 season.
