MOSI LIGHT CHEERS COPPER EAGLES AHEAD OF THEIR 2024 OLYMPICS QUALIFICATION BID
LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Zambian Breweries kicks off a cheerful journey with the sponsorship and unveiling of the Zambia Rugby 7s Women’s Team jersey, who are on a mission to secure their place in the 2024 Olympics final qualifications.
Speaking during the unveiling of the official team jersey, Country Director Michelle Kilpin stated that: “Zambian Breweries is genuinely honored to be a part of this remarkable journey—a journey that echoes the spirit of ‘Zambia Ku Chalo.’ We take great pride in our Women’s Rugby 7s Team, who exemplify unity, excellence, and resilience.”
“At Zambian Breweries, we’ve always recognized the transformative power of sport. The discipline, teamwork, and values that define sports are qualities we admire and embrace in our daily lives,” she continued.
The brewer through its Mosi Light brand has come on board and supported the team with over K600,000. This is a showcase of Zambian Breweries’ unwavering commitment to supporting local sports development and initiatives such as women’s rugby in Zambia and creating opportunities for all in the communities in which it operates. The Women’s Rugby 7s Team’s perseverance and achievements serve as a testament to the rewards of this commitment.
Mr Boniface Kambikambi, Secretary General of the National Olympics Committee of Zambia, expressed his excitement, saying, “In the last Olympic games in Tokyo 2020, we had the first women’s team from Zambia—the Copper Queens in football—participating in the games. It would be remarkable to see another female team make it to the Olympic Games.”
Highlighting the importance of seeing the participation of female professional athletes across the sector, he added, “We believe in promoting gender equity, and it would be wonderful to see an increased number of female athletes representing Zambia at the Olympics. We are particularly grateful to sponsors like Mosi Light, whose support has been instrumental in advancing rugby and the journey of our women’s team.”
Cecilia Tresha, Secretary General of the Zambia Rugby Union, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Zambian Breweries wholeheartedly supports rugby in its entirety and, this time, extends sponsorship to the Women’s 7s Rugby Team, who aspire to represent Zambia at the Olympics. Your sponsorship plays a pivotal role in our mission and journey as a Union. We’ve taken deliberate steps to support women’s rugby, including amending our rugby constitution to include a gender equality clause. We deeply appreciate your commitment to rugby and the Zambia Rugby Union.”
As the Copper Eagles Team heads to Tunisia for the final qualifications leading to the 2024 Olympics, Zambia stands united in support, and fans will eagerly be following their journey.
