ZCSA AND ZB CLARIFY BEER CONCERNS
LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency and Zambian Breweries Plc have reassured the public that the company’s Castle Lite lager continues to be manufactured under highest regulated conditions.
The assurance followed isolated quality issues affecting two batches of 330ml returnable glass bottles of the lager, which were uplifted from distributors as a precautionary measure.
The agency has been working with Zambian Breweries to check the safety of the product in line with the agency’s mandate under the Compulsory Standards Act No.3 of 2017.
“Members of the public should note that only the product bearing batch No. s 319 2022 L3 with a Best before date of March 15, 2023 and batch No. 277 with a Best before date of February 1, 2023 and not Batch No. 227 were quarantined. All other batches on the market have no concerns,” said ZCSA Communications Officer Caroline Kalombe.
Zambian Breweries Country Director Michelle Kilpin confirmed that production of Castle Lite remained on track and added: “Zambian Breweries remains committed to upholding the highest standards in the production of our world-class beers, and beer-lovers can be assured this will continue. in the meantime we wish all our customers a cheerful festive season and urge them to enjoy responsibly.”
