ZAMBIAN BREWERIES CLOSES ENVIRONMENTAL MONTH WITH COMMUNITY TREE PLANTING

‘Only One Earth’

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – The 2022 Environmental Campaign ‘Only One Earth’ prompted Zambian Breweries and Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) to execute a mission both companies are passionate about.

Zambia has not been spared by the global change in weather patterns, and recent droughts and floods in the country all point to worsening climate change.

Minister of Water Development and Sanitation Hon. Mike Mposha was encouraged by the efforts demonstrated by the two companies in embedding environmental management as part of their day-to-day operations.

He also urged other private sector players to emulate Zambian Breweries’ efforts of creating partnerships for sustainable development, saying: “The New Dawn government under the leadership of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr Hakainde Hichilema places high premium on environmental protection and provision of access to clean and safe water to all Zambians including those in peri-urban and rural areas.”

The 2022 World Environment Day campaign under the theme ‘Only One Earth’ calls for collective transformative action on a global scale to celebrate and protect the planet.

Zambian Breweries Corporate Affairs Director Ezekiel Sekele that we must understand the reasons behind environmental degradation and prevent the practices that harm our environment by implementing practices that will help improve the environment such as planting trees or enhancing water bodies that will eventually help communities.

As part of Zambian Breweries’ 2025 sustainability goal on Water Stewardship, the company first joined forces with LWSC on the construction of the industrial borehole in Lusaka George Compound Community in an effort, to fight recent public health challenges occasioned by cholera and COVID-19.

Mr Sekele said: “Water is life; sanitation is health, and through partnership for sustainable development we will be able to magnify the environmental issues and press on to address the many challenges that are there in society,” Mr Sekele said.

“It can only be done through partnership,” he added on.

As Zambia’s largest brewer, Zambian Breweries depends on healthy, natural environments and thriving communities to brew its beer, believing in the ethos of “a future with more cheers”.
