Aspiring technicians compete for dream jobs at Toyota Zambia
LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – The chance of a dream job with leading automotive company Toyota Zambia has attracted hundreds of aspiring car mechanics to apply for 12 coveted vehicle technician apprenticeships.
Successful candidates will work under Toyota-trained technicians gaining valuable practical skills as well as 12-month Technical College training paid for by Toyota Zambia in order to gain a City and Guilds certificate in Motor Vehicle Systems.
“It’s an opportunity of a lifetime for the right candidates to learn the skills that will give them a career with one of the biggest names in the industry,” explained Toyota Group HR Manager Thaddeus Lubinga.
“We are looking for people who a have passion to work in the automotive industry as a preferred career and who can also show they have leadership qualities,” he added.
The four-year apprenticeship programme was open to men and women under 21 with a full Grade 12 GCE certificate who graduated in 2020 with at least five credits in mathematics, English, science and any other two subjects. Applications closed on Friday, June 13, 2022.
Entrants will work at one of the Toyota Zambia branch workshops in Lusaka, Kabwe, Kitwe, Solwezi or Livingstone and also undergo training at a government technical college for one year.
Once qualified as a technician you can enter the Toyota Motor Corporation Technician TEAM-GP training programme. Starting as a Toyota technician they can then progress to the other levels of training: pro-technician, diagnostic technician, and the highest certification: diagnostic master technician. These are worldwide Toyota recognised certifications.
Toyota Zambia was also recruiting 12 people to join its two-year graduate trainee programme that provides in-depth working knowledge of the leading multi-national brand.
Graduates – who must have a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from 2021 or 2022, be under 25 and computer literate – will undergo an intensive management development preparation for the future roles in the organisation based on performance. Applications closed on June 3.
